Langtang region is located northern site of Kathmandu valley and it’s one of the popular trekking destinations.  This region offers the blend of stunning nature beauty, rich in cultural experience and moderate difficulty. Start from Kathmandu valley with breathtaking views of Langtang Himalayas, lush green forest, alpine meadows and glaciers with Tibetan influence culture and lifestyle. This trek is suitable for the all kind of trekkers.

14 Day • Itinerary Overview

Day 01

Arrival in Kathmandu (1,400m)

You will arrive at Kathmandu Airport, where you will be received and transferred directly to Hotel Moonlight. There are no scheduled activities for the evening.

Accommodation: Hotel Moonlight – Paknajol, Thamel.

Food: Breakfast

Day 02

Kathmandu - Shyabrubensi Travel-1500m |122km drive

We begin our journey with a pick-up from Hotel Moonlight, followed by a drive to Shyabrubesi. The route winds through scenic hilly terrain, mostly along an off-road track. Although still rugged in places, the road condition has improved significantly in recent years. The drive takes approximately 6 to 7 hours.

Bird activity along the way is relatively low, but some common species can still be spotted.
Key Bird Species: Blue-capped Rock Thrush, Ashy Drongo, Red-billed Blue Magpie, among others.

Depending on time and energy levels, we may opt for a short hike from Shyabrubesi. Tonight’s stay will be at a basic lodge, which is also favorable for bird and wildlife sightings. We’ll discuss and make a final decision on this once we’re on the road.

Day 03

Shyabru Bensi - Lama Hotel Trek – 2500m |5/6 hrs Trek|11km

Today’s trail mostly follows the Langtang Khola, winding through beautiful mixed forests. Along the way, we’ll pass by sections of a newly built hydro dam. The trail is pleasant, with a steady uphill gradient, following the river valley through diverse vegetation zones.

Key Bird Species: Pied Thrush, Himalayan Prinia, Black Bulbul, Himalayan Bulbul, Yellow-rumped Honeyguide, Scaly Laughingthrush, Striated Laughingthrush, Fire-breasted Flowerpecker, Immaculate Cupwing, Little Forktail, Spotted Forktail, and more.

Day 04

Lama Hotel - Langtang Village -3450m |6/7 hrs Trek|15km

We begin the day walking through dense Himalayan forests. As we gain altitude, the valley gradually widens and the tree line thins, revealing expansive views of the surrounding peaks. This is where the valley opens up, offering breathtaking panoramas of the Himalayas.

Langtang Village, once one of the largest and most unique settlements in the region, was tragically devastated by the 2015 earthquake and landslide. The original village site remains buried, but a new settlement has been rebuilt slightly further to the northeast. From here, you’ll enjoy fantastic views of Langtang Lirung and sweeping vistas down the valley.

Key Bird Species: Brown Dipper, Scarlet Finch, Darjeeling Woodpecker, Variegated Laughingthrush, Black-faced Laughingthrush, Himalayan Monal, and more.

Day 05

Langtang Village -  Kyangjin Gomba-3800m, 3/4 hrs trek | 6.5km

Today, we will hike to the last settlement in the valley — Kyanjin Gomba, a well-developed village featuring modern buildings, cozy coffee shops and bakeries, a local cheese factory, and surrounded by stunning Himalayan views.

Depending on the weather and your health condition, we may also hike down to the Langtang riverbed, also known as the Old Airstrip — a known breeding ground for the iconic Himalayan bird, the Ibisbill.

Key Bird Species: Golden Eagle, Bearded Vulture, Himalayan Griffon, White-bellied Redstart, Snow Pigeon, Ibisbill, and others.

Day 06

Kyanjin Gomba – Langtang Village 3,430 meters, (11,253 feet) 5/6hrs trek | 10km

Early Morning Hike to Kyanjin-ri (4700m)
This is one of the best viewpoints offering excellent panoramic views of the Himalayas and the surrounding valley. The hike takes about 2 to 3 hours and involves a steep ascent and descent. After breakfast, we will retrace our steps on a beautiful and enjoyable downhill walk to the settlement of Langtang Village. Key Bird Species: Alpine Accentor, Bearded Vulture, Common Raven, Red-billed Chough, Yellow-billed Chough, and more.

Day 07

Langtang-Lama Hotel 6/7hrs trek |15km

We will continue walking down through the Langtang Valley, following the scenic route via Ghodatabela, Woodland, Riverside, Lama Hotel. The trail offers a pleasant descent through lush forests and shrubs along the Langtang Khola, with occasional glimpses of birds and wildlife.

Day 08

Lama Hotel-Thulo Syabru (2250m) – 8 hrs. trek |13KM

We begin our trek today after the breakfast and retrace our steps towards Lama Hotel before continuing to Thulo Syabru. The trek today descends through enchanting forests and traditional Tamang villages. After passing Rimche,Bambo and Pahire we ascend to Thulo Syabru.A picturesque village offering insights into local culture and stunning mountain views. This gives us an opportunity to get an insight of the culture and custom of the Tamang community.

Day 09

Thulo Syabru-Sing Gompa {Chandanbari} (3250m) – 6 hrs. trek | 12 KM

Then after we move on to the forest of oak, firs and rhododendrons and gains a ridge. Staying fairly level in the forest we cross the ridge top towards the head of the valley. The trail ascends at each junction crosses another forested ridge continuing the same to the second valley. Finally, we are at the final ridge at the altitude of 3250m. The Sing Gompa is about 100 meters along the trail to the trail to the left. We find a small cheese factory and a neglected Gompa with its 1000-armed Avalokitesvara statue.

Day 10

Sing Gompa-Gosin Kunda (The Sacred Lake) (4380m}- 6 hrs. Trek | 9 KM

Gosainkunda, according to Hindu religion, the high-altitude lake was created by Lord Shiva. From Sing Gompa, an ascending ridge connects to the trail towards Gosainkunda(Holy Shiva’s Lake). The trail climbs sharply at the edge in points and riches at the top. We, then find rich moist mountain forests on the northern slopes and dry scrub vegetation to the south. As we climb the ascending trail the excellent views of Langtang Valley and Langtang Lirung can be observed and mystic views of Himalchuli, Ganesh Himal and Manaslu to the west. The trail then towards Gosainkunda. Before, we come across two more lakes Saraswati Kunda and then Bhairab Kunda. The third lake, Gosainkunda, is particularly sacred and a place of pilgrimage in the summer.

Day 11

Excursin Gosin Kund and Back to Sing Gompa (3250m) – 5 hrs. trek | 9 KM

Today, we take a break from trekking. Instead, we do bate on Gosainkunda. We enjoy the fantastic view of Ganesh Himal, Langtang Lirung, Himchuli, and the other Himalayas from the lake. After spending some time in Gosaikunda back to Sing Gompa.

Day 12

Sing Gompa- Dhunche (2030m) – 6 hrs trek |18KM

We trek downhill to Dhunche on our last day of the trek. We pass some mountain forests of rhododendron, pine, and juniper before we reach Deurali. We trek along Trishuli River to reach Dhunche. Gradually the path stretches at flat level through some settlements and bottled mineral water factories up to Dhunche. Overnight at a lodge in Dhunche.

Day 13

Departure Kathmandu

We bid farewell to the Langtang region and drive back to Kathmandu, where you can enjoy a relaxing evening reminiscing about the trek.

Final Departure

Depending on your flight time you will be transferred to the airport. The airport checks in is 3 hours prior to the departure time and the hotel checkout time is 12 PM. In case our flight is late evening please let us know if you require half day use of the hotel.

Visa Instruction:

  1. Visa Form:
    Please complete the online visa application form in advance. If possible, print a copy and keep it with you for faster processing.
  2. Upon Arrival:
    After landing at Kathmandu Airport, walk straight to the Visa Fee Counter, located on the left-hand side as you enter the immigration area.
  3. Payment:
    Ensure you have the exact visa fee amount in cash (USD is preferred). After paying, you will receive a visa payment slip.
  4. Immigration:
    Proceed to the immigration counter with the following:

    • Passport
    • Visa payment slip
    • Boarding pass (Please keep it safe, as it is required for obtaining your visa)

After processing, your visa will be stamped into your passport.

  1. Luggage & Exit:
    Walk downstairs to the baggage claim area. Before that, there will be a final security check (metal-free) — remove belts and any metal items if necessary.
  2. Customs:
    Collect your luggage, pass through customs inspection, and then proceed to the ground floor arrivals area, where I will be waiting to receive you.
